I WAS FOUR YEARS OLD when my father phoned me from Ngorongoro Crater. As he showed me his photographs later that summer, I dreamed of seeing it with him. But he passed away before we fulfilled that wish. So when I finally stood on the rim of Crater myself, its magnificence was blurry through my tears.
Today, as Director of Conservation for Naples Zoo, I spend a month in Africa each year living in the joy that my waking eyes are blessed to witness the world of my childhood dreams. I am grateful to continue my parent’s legacy conserving wildlife and always carry one of my dad's bandanna’s on my travels in his honor.
